Description

I spotted this honeybee feeding in a zucchini flower and knew she'd be covered in some huge pollen, but the flower was very low to the ground and it was just a really bad angle to shoot from. So when she landed on a nearby grape vine to clean herself I took a chance and got her to feed from my finger. There was so much pollen on the poor girl that it was falling like snow.

Tech Specs: Canon 1D Mark III (F14, 1/250, ISO 200) + a Canon MPE-65mm macro lens (~ 3x) + a diffused MT-24EX. This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. I am the finger model.

I'm back! Here we go again! This picture is crazy, I have no idea how you were able to do this with that MPE-65mm (and no mono-pod) while holding a bee on your finger. You must have some serious dexterity and some very very very steady hands. As far as the visual elements: the green in the background is good, it compliments the warm flesh tone and all those fantastic little orbs of pollen! Nice angle, the top of the eye is a little soft because of the reflection from what I can tell and it helps blend smoothly into the out of focus part of the bee. You do have that front antenna out of focus but it isn't as big of a deal as it is not covering the eye or anything major, but I think it would have benefited from an extra frame or two to stack. However what you have done here is excellent and I think the feat you have achieved here is far and beyond sheer luck, you have got mad skills. Composition wise, the highlight on the eye fits nicely into the rule of thirds, the angles help break up the image and add interest, and the lighting is superb! In my honest opinion I think the coolest part is the little orbs of pollen. Great colors, and mad skill. Can't wait to see what you lure in next!
