Swapping Spit by dalantech Swapping Spit by dalantech
I put down some honey to bait these Carpenter Ants and in this scene one of them is sharing the sweet stuff with another one (as well as information about where to find it). The tricky part about shooting this species is that it reacts to the flash, so I only get one frame.

Tech Specs: Canon 1D Mark III (F13, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MPE-65mm macro lens (@ 4x) with an 81A warming filter + a diffused MT-24EX.

Swapping Spit by dalantech shows a tender moment between two ants sharing a drop of honey. For sure an unique moment fantastically captured by the artist.

I must say that is is an amazing show of skill and dedication, You have taken the time to plan out and photograph an amazing scene with an creature so small and one that reacts to flash. I do believe that this is one of the best pieces Ive seen because of the stunning detail that is shown as well as the dedication to the photo, my one point that i do not like in this photo is something you could not control, it is how the feeler looks like it is floating in space, but in the end I give this photo a four and a half out of five. Thank you for sharing this piece of art with us.

They... are they both eating a bee?
Like, Lady and the Tramp style???

I swear, something in their mouths has legs... O.<

They have some really interesting mouth parts that are very similar to a wasp or hornet, but they are very difficult to photograph.

Makes me think of "lockjaw", which isn't really that surprising.

This is probably the most detailed shot of ants I've ever seen. This is great! Must have really been a memorable moment when you shot this.

Congrats on the DD!

It's amazing how some cameras can get so upclose to tiny things, but ants aren't so cool when they get in the house, lol.
