September Violet Darter by dalantech September Violet Darter by dalantech
Stopped by the lake on the way home and shot this Violet Darter dragonfly in the heat of the day. Easy, just have to find one that's feeding and feeling territorial about its perch.

Tech Specs: Canon 1D Mark III (F11, 1/10, ISO 200) + a Canon EF-S 60mm macro lens and 62mm of extension tubes (~2.8x) + a diffused MT-24EX macro twin flash. Single frame taken hand held. I was trying to pick up some light in the background with the ISO and shutter speed.

Great job! I've never been able to get a photo of a dragonfly. They never ever land for me lol. I've only had luck with damselflies

Thanks :)

I know this species really well, so I've learned how to get close to them.

That's good! I should probably try to learn about insects. They're my favorite subjects for my photography, but I really don't know anything about them. I just see one and go, 'Ooooh! I wanna take a picture!' lol
