The closest focusing distance of this lens is 24cm.
1- Is that true on your Canon EOS 40D, since it has this 1,6 focal factor?
2- Is that constant at all magnifying factors, from 1x to 5x?

1) The crop factor does not change the focusing distance of any lens -it's just a crop and it's no different than taking a full frame image and cropping it in Photoshop...

2) No. The working distance of the lens (from the front of the lens to the subject) is as follows:

1x = 10.1 cm

2x= 6.3 cm

3x = 5.1 cm

4x = 4.4 cm

5x = 4.1 cm
