Image II in the Gymnast series, this time going for a high magnification portrait.
Tech Specs: Canon 1D Mark III (F10, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MPE-65mm macro lens (@ almost 4x) + a diffused MT-24EX (0 FEC). I used a grape leaf to keep the background from being black.
This piece is absolutely stunning. Macro Photography is, in my opinion, a facet of photography that isn't always given the credit it deserves. However, it's impossible to deny a piece like this anything less than an enormous amount of respect.
I think the placement of the bee is spot-on. The empty space helps give the photo a flow and balance that the average viewer may not immediately recognize, but will instantly appreciate.
Although I do wish more or the bee were in focus, the shallow depth of field does lend itself to highlighting the intricate textures that have been captured, and so I can embrace it without feeling cheated.
This photo is the very definition of striking. Great job.
