Another early morning shot of a slowly moving bee.
Tech Specs: Canon 1D Mark III (F13, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MPE-65mm macro lens (2x) + a diffused MT-24EX (0 FEC). I used a grape leaf to keep the background from being black.
The suggesters say: =leelloor: "Beautiful capture. Great colors and composition." ~Rapierr: "He is a well known photographer in extreme macro world with his lighting solutions. In this photo he was able to show another unique behavior of his favorite model (bees). This photo stands out of the crowd with its unique composition and natural looking lighting." *MEgolddust: "The body movement of that bee makes it quiet special. I haven't seen any macro like it before." Gymnast by =dalantech (
This is one of the better macro shots I've seen. The detail and clarity are absolutely amazing.
The colours of the wasp are nice - bright but not overly so.
The composition could be better, though. Vertically the wasp is too centred, and I feel there should be more space on the right side than the left, because that's the way the wasp is facing. Overall, I think there's too much space around the wasp - I think a tighter crop would work better. Also, the DOF seems a bit too shallow to me. I'd like to see a little more of the wasp in focus. However, you'd probably struggle to do focus stacking with a live subject, so this is a bit of a moot point.
Anyway. In terms of detail, this is magnificent. I just think the composition could be improved somewhat. But it's still a really great shot. Kudos!
