Description

I baited this honeybee to get her to slow down and let me get close. Shot at almost 3x with a Canon MPE-65mm macro lens.

This image was chosen by National Geographic for their Daily Dozen in the 4th week of August 2009.

I was selected by Digital Photographer Magazine as their Macro Photographer of the Year for 2009 for this image www.dphotographer.co.uk/dpoty2…

There is not much you can say about this photo for the simple fact it is perfection at every level.

Macros of insects for me are quite problematic since most of them fail to show the animals in an appealing way. This photo is actually the first one that baffled me and left me curious to appreciate every detail of it. Furthermore, there are details in this photo that I never saw before in other macros so you literally show the honeybee with a brand new light and in plain action.

The detail is superb. Never before I could appreciate the pollen of a flower and how this "sparkles" the photo. Beautiful colors and flawless technique. Fantastic choice of depth as well.

There is nothing else to say but to remark the marvelous work you did.
How come this didn't become a Daily Deviation is something that I cannot understand...

Congratulations!
