Description

Technique: I was holding on to the Lavender stem that the beetle was on with my left hand, and resting the lens on that same hand to keep the scene steady. The background is a piece of blue plexiglass with some cloth, that has glitter on it, behind it.

Tech Specs: Canon 70D (F16, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (2x) + a diffused MT-24EX (-2/3 FEC). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held.

This is beautiful! This is certainly a well thought out, aesthetically pleasing photograph! Which, to say the least, gives a very impressive impact.

The plain background that you have created was perfect for this shot. It helps to keep the viewers eye on the main center of attention - the beetle - whilst also creating a contrast in colors. The lightness of the background against the darkness of the beetle really help it to stay the main focus of attention, and push it forward in the photograph. Not only this, but the blue background also helps to pull out the reflective surface of the beetles shell; the small hints of blue in the reflection appears to work in conjunction with the background, causing the background to be even more appropriate.

The detail in this photograph is truly stunning and shows great skill and technique. The detail on the beetle is weighed out by the smaller detail of the lavender that it is sat on. Personally, I adore the detail of its front leg and claw (though others are more likely to prefer the shell or face of the beetle). This is because it is less common to see this detail than it is to see detail of the face.

Overall, this photograph is amazing; I cannot pick any faults! Keep up the beautiful work!
